No love from the Sportsmans Channel

One of the few! This is one of the few outdoors sports such as the hunting and fishing shows worth watching. I eliminate about half due to ethics problems, and aother 25% due to poor filming, narrative, etc and of the 25% left about 15% have many smaller problems along with one of the big ones...

What Power Scope for a .270 win. ?

A scope on a rifle is a personal thing and depends on your style of hunting and whether or not you hunt early and late, at what distances you intend on shooting, and what you intend on shooting. A 3x9 is a great start as once you get bigger the scopes get more bulky and troublesome. I leave...

    Why oyoa is true hunting

Well said Bob! just watched the show today on antelope hunting in south central Wyoming and again it was a classy show. Too bad we can't get the others to take note! Anymore, I watch a new show just once and if by the five minute mark we are still mucking around with loud music and no show...

    Some Insights

Good show and one of about three that I try not to miss. The rest area all hat and no cattle.

    Rem. Model 700 issue

Funny thing and it supports what I saida bove. I've heard that of yet, no independant person has been able to duplicate the so-called problem. That sure sounds fishy! I've heard that here's even a you tube video making the rounds of the persecutions expert trying to make it happen but...

    Wsm?

Funny thing that over the years, you lean toward comfort and results and lean away from the latest or greatest fad, fling, or such. There's no doubt about it the .308 and it's entire family gets my nod as does the 257 Roberts and it's Daddy the 7X57! The extra inch or two in flatness at the...

    Rem. Model 700 issue

For those of you who haven't been around for awhile. CBS, NBC, MSNBC, etc are very, very, anti-gun, as well as anti-hunting so my first inclination is to disregard their so-called story altogether as it's most likely just another chop job in the works on guns and hunting. Should you not...

    2010 Wyo Deer

Great one! I'm also a public lands, diy hunter. Been tromping, in a limited way due to health, very likely some of the same land or nearby land to where you did your work. Congrats as bucks seem to be far and few between and really nice bucks scarce as hens teeth! I'm from just north of...

High shot, do you adjust for angle?

I use .9, .7 and .6 for angles of 30, 45 and 60 degrees. The numbers are easy to remember and in years of mountain hunting I've never had to use the 45 or 60 degree slope multipier. You multiply the actual range by the numbers I gave dervied from the trig tables...

    Sunglasses?!

Bolle's, Ray Bans, Smith's, Hobies and quite a few other companies make great glasses for hunting and other uses. Out here in Wyoming they make as much sense as does wide brimmed hats and for the same reason, the Sun! We lvie at 7000 ft and hunt between here and 10K and the sun is intense...

    My Diatribe

Over the years I figured out exactly the same thing but the rifle gods were against me as for years I'd been looking for "that" rifle. Well about the time I was very comfy with my 257 Roberts BLR, a nice 7x57 Mauser and a lovely 308 BLR, "that" rifle appeared on Gunbroker in a 30-06. To make a...

    Looking for a new rifle

http://www.northcarolinasportsman.com/details.php?id=519 I believe that this article mirrors my thoughts very well. I've worked with cross dominanace before and what is said in the article makes excellent sense.

    Horseback Hunting??

Hunted with and without--owned them for years now. Might use them again in the mountains if all conditions were just right.

Gonna be leaving lots of gates open.....

JoseCuervo;2133508] "I will leave them however I want them.... Anything we can do to make it more difficult on Wyoming's Welfare Ranchers to operate is incumbent upon us as hunters to do. Only when the west is free of range maggots and angus-x eating for a $1.35 per month will we have...

Gonna be leaving lots of gates open.....

BLM and Ranchers in General Leave gates as you found them. Try knocking but in many if not most areas of Wyoming here in the SE part anyway, outfitters and the ranches have it all leased and sub leased to hunters so it's no go. Tresspass fees range from $25 to hunt Anteloped on a very few...

    Any Barnes fans out there?

Good point of that wind drift! Make sense! On the ballistic tips though I tried and discarded them as they waste meat. I prefer eating right up to the hole! :) Other than that they did shoot nicely. I wonder if any of the tungsten added Barnes have shortened the bullets any??

    Any Barnes fans out there?

I gave a bit of thought to this and offer a possible explanation. If your loads weren't chronographed, there's an easy explanation that involves bullet design and reloading technique. If you look at the Barnes Reloading data versus some of the others, you'll notice the Barnes loads seem heavy...
