Gunnison Archery Elk- 54, 551
I've hunted the east side of 551 twice and have seen elk each time. I was hunting second season with an OTC tag so can't speak to crowds during the earlier season, but it wasn't real crowded and hiking a bit got you away from the majority of hunters. -

News from this week's CPW Sportspeople's Round Table meetings.
The short answer is because CPW is using data from 2009-2011 to calculate the 80-20 split, which is prior to that hunt code existing. CO Unit 551, 50, 54 Help
Can you pull off a 2nd or 3rd season rifle? Units 551 and 55 are still good for that. Not sure if the 54 have sold out yet because there are caps but Oct 22-30 are still good hunting and camping. -

I have hunted 551 for many years and breaking into unit 54 with a deer hunt this year. My first question is with the Sept 10 - 17 date given, did you draw a muzzleloader tag? or Archery? If not, there are no over the counter tags available until the 2nd or 3rd season rifle hunts.
