Fellow hunter persons, with out incriminating myself I will tell you how I figure out what to eat. The best is if it is a herbivore only animal, consider it good enough to eat, the least of them being water type that eat moss and plants from it, they will take additional preparing.
Second is herbivore/meat eaters, they will sometimes have to be delt with on the flavor of the meat.
Third is the meat eaters, they will definitely have tastes to be delt with.
I have ate almost everything on the North American continent. Birds, snakes, dogs, cats, four footed animals, they all could be ate for sure by the second try. the Internet is a great place to find a recipe for your intend meal.
Next time you snuff something take at least part of a hind quarter home and try it.
Examples Sparrow is like a Chucker just a smaller breast, Roadrunner is like a Pheasant, and things like Coyote, House dog, House cat or Mountain Lion (lion,bobcat eat well), you get the picture right?
