Those of you in the Midwest are all familiar with the Outdoor News. It's been a mainstay in the Midwest since I was a kid. They asked me to craft a piece that encourages hunters and anglers to vote based on records, not party.
Bill Parcels was famous for telling a reporter, "You are who your record says you are." It was a classic Parcels response to not make excuses or try to BS somebody - your record is what it is, so own it and quit pretending it is something else.
In Parcel's case, it applied to football. But, it also applies to our elected officials.
Too many elected folks want to tell us one thing and their voting record shows something different. Over the last couple years, my tolerance for the lip service of elected officials has diminished to zero. I've used this Parcels quote more and more when talking to them or their staff. Usually, there is no response and it's usually an uncomfortable quiet for a little while.
