Thinking of burning some points next season. I have a buddy who is a Wyoming resident who I’ll be hunting with. One of the units suggested I try to draw is 71, I have the points so I should be able to get it. I’m wanting to rifle hunt and wondering if my assumptions that hunting it at the beginning of the season (sept20) is the right move, my thought is to go after them during the rut, but I’m just wondering if this unit holds elk during that time or if it needs snow to push them into this area
Also if anyone has hunted it and wants to show off bulls that’d be cool 😆

JFYI there is a reason it has such an early rifle opener. It's serious WY wilderness with as many Grizz and you can handle. As said you have to be hunting with a resident guide in there and you'll need horses unless you just hunt the fringes. I would be thinking more about if you're up for the challenge and potential stress of this type of hunt than I would be thinking about dates. Lots of other WY areas with early general rifle dates that are not nearly as challenging as that area.

And just in case you did not know this. This was in the same area
