Four of us drew type 1 elk tags in area n!nety f!ve for this fall. Two of the guys in the group are older and retired and plan to spend most of the month of September hunting and fishing. I did some research on the Green River/Lakes and saw some photos of bright red spawning kokanee in the river in September. Anyone have an experience fishing there or fall kokanee anywhere else? It's a bucket list fish for me so I am sure we will find some time during our 8 day archery trip to fish. I am sure the older guys in the group will try their hand catching some as well while they are there all month. Feel free to PM if you have any insight on what to use and how to catch a few. Thanks in advance.

Totally envious of spending the month of September hunting and fishing. If I could retire now I’d join them! We’d find those Kokes!
Best of luck!

I’ve seen them in the river coming out of the Fontenelle reservoir I think it is the Green river. They were in there thick but that was like 12 years ago.

Kokanee fishing is usually closed for the spawn. Check the regs for exact dates.

Never done it, but if I were you:

Look for a place where the fishing is closed for them, but trout are still open. Then take the fly rod and fish egg patterns for the rainbows eating the eggs. Use the 6wt or better, and hang on.

Just based on some things I read a while back about catching them as bycatch in Colorado.
