I am looking for some recommendations on a guided elk or deer.
I will start out with information about my buddy and I.
Both of us have hunted together for 30 years. Guided and unguided deer in Canada and Midwest.
Both over 60 yrs old.
I have 13 elk and 12 deer points. I believe even 2 antelope points. Partner has none so we would be splitting my points. Since the hunts would not start until next year or even 2028. We would both be adding 2-4 additional points
I considered going unguided for deer next year just to familiarize our general knowledge. I did go unguided for Deer south of Cheyenne over 10 years ago. We were on a lease and 5 of us tagged in on good bucks in 3 days.
So hunt deer in 2027 and go guided in 2028 for elk.
Criteria
Decent area unguided with 6 points each for deer 2027.
Guided 2028 for elk with approx 7 points each hunter
Elk hunted with decent opportunity for a good bull. I took a nice bull in Montana years ago. So for me I would be happy for any bull. Would like my partner to take a good bull for him.
Would like a camp and horseback hunt for elk. Did this in Montana and it was very memorable. We are older and a very physical hunt would take away from the enjoyment of it. I don’t want spend all of our time driving to the hunting grounds.
At our age we will never be going back. So if you give me leads I won’t be going back again
Reading many of the comments hear. I think hunting the same units for deer and elk are a no go. So as far as elk it has to be guided
