I was looking at draw odds and I see type 1, type 2 and so on. Then I see general elk tag. Can someone please explain this tag?

A General elk tag is valid in any of the areas marked GEN in the regulations. You are still bound by the assigned dates for the particular unit you are hunting in. The advantage of a GEN tag is you can be more mobile and move to a different GEN area if you desire based on hunting pressure, fires etc... The disadvantage is WY residents can buy GEN tags OTC, those areas may face more hunting pressure. As it is a full price tag, a person can only get one GEN tag a year. Non-residents must enter the WY draw in order to get a GEN tag. This year in the regular draw, 2 preference points were required to draw and in the special draw if you didn't have a point 75% were successful in the draw and 1 point guaranteed you a tag. The regular and special draw is a whole different subject... Hope this helps.
