All info I've gotten and herd points to a possible banner year for antler growth in the nothwest region of Wy. Lots of 4yr. + Bulls going into this season.

Glad I have an elk tag for this fall.
Guess we gotta see what summer Rains will bring . At least elk appear to have wintered good this year.

Any one else hunting in the Wyoming high country for elk ?

I'll be hunting WY for the first time this year. Im excited I'll be hunting an "any elk" zone for general rifle. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a big bull but last year was my first year hunting elk on a late season cow tag in NV and was unsuccessful. I'll be hunting a zone that is Region G for deer which I should draw in a year or two so I'm excited to learn the area and hopefully learn for the future at the same time I fill the freezer. Good luck for you this year!

That region has lots of elk. You should be successful as long as you put in some walking.
Not alot of big bulls walking around on non wilderness area, so a guy might want to take any decent bull you get a chance at.
Cows obviously taste good too!

Good luck.

You read that on the Internet?

Read it lots of places there Bob.
Though obviously a good deer or elk can come out of just about anywhere from time to time.
Have customers that have hunted near there also. They always got an elk while on their hunts, usually cows though.
I'm a Taxidermist.

Been researching for an elk hunt in Wyoming lots of years now.
Not claiming to be an expert, just trying to help with what I've learned from others and read from time to time.

Where you hunting this fall TWH? What elk unit and county?
I may know someone that can give some info.

I think one of my recent elk customers hunted unit 91. Not sure exactly though.
Always glad to help someone out if I can.
I believe he went guided.

Crazy enough, unit 91. My dads long time friend lives in Star Valley and they hunted the Salts hard 30 years ago. I'm excited to see the country my dads been talking of my whole life. We will be on horses a few days and I plan a couple nights on a solo drop as well. I'm really most excited to get my pops back there again, he turns 70 this month and not sure how many opportunities he will have to be in the Salts again. I'd sure like to make this trip special with a big bull but I know seeing that country with him for the first time is far more important.

That sounds like you guys are in for a great trip regardless of what animals you see or harvest.
If I can get some info from the guys I know I'll be glad to pass it on.

Hope you the best of luck!
