I am a 100% public land DIY hunter.

I don’t want public lands or DIY opportunity going anywhere.

I could see more folks burning the points they have and getting out of the game as it all escalates. I've been buying d/e/a for 11 years there and only went on 2 elk hunts. Going to burn the antelope points this year. Not too eager to burn deer points yet.

I burned 11 this year on a general tag. Friend only had a couple so we put in together. I just like elk hunting.

The group app makes the points quasi transferable. I'm sure there are plenty of guys buying points for someone else that has zero interest in hunting but will go on the group app at some point.

I'd probably do the same! Been looking ahead a bit with someone that has few deer points and a bunch of elk points (inverse of me). I'd maybe consider sharing with a lower point holder for antelope this year if it made sense.

The group app makes the points quasi transferable. I'm sure there are plenty of guys buying points for someone else that has zero interest in hunting but will go on the group app at some point.

I thought about asking a relative to buy points to do this years ago. Would get pretty expensive buying two tags as well for something like elk..

This is true, and it is what inspired my musing about allowing for multiple points being purchased.

It would devalue the special to non existent. Just buy your 6 points and you’re in the regular general draw at 100%. Still cheaper than eating and applying in the special. Not a good business plan for WY.

Agree, but Wyoming would achieve the goals of the special (make more $ and allow people to buy there way closer to a tag) in different ways.

I suspect the financial upside of multiple points would more than make up for it. A unit 38 elk tag, for example, would probably cost 100 points or more/ that would be way more $$ towards conservation than a special tag under the current draw odds. And you could hunt it every year if you wanted it bad enough.

Money is no object to some, as demonstrated by Montana NR landowner draws. In WY every year there are a lot of people with almost max points that don't apply. Maybe WY views them like an annuity?

You need to create scarcity to create value. My idea is people can sell the points back to WY after they die and then WY can auction them off. That limits the size of the pool. I image someone that forgot to buy a point in a year and sits one point below max would pay for to get that extra point. And then probably not apply,...but whatever. LOL

Just be happy they don't just have an annual incremental increase built into prices for everything every year, I've always been a little surprised that most states leave prices the same for as long as they do.
