I own a 2013 F-150 Super cab 4x4. It's been a good truck, 5.0 liter, 6 speed auto, 256,000 miles. Last week it started making noise in the front end. Brought it in to the nearest Ford dealer. Pinion bearing in the front differential is shot. 2200.00 to fix. So I've been truck shopping ever since. I'm trying to find another like it but newer, years 18-20 or so. Looking online, at dealers and everywhere else I can think of throughout the whole state. Seems there's around 400 crewcabs for every 1 supercab. Very hard too find! Why aren't they making more supercab trucks? I don't need a crewcab, would rather have more room in the box versus the cab. Stopped at a Ford dealer today. They had 59 new F150 crew cabs on the lot. Not a single supercab. Closest dealer to me has around 20 crews, no supers. What the heck? I asked the salesman today and he said they just can't get super cabs. Apparently Ford isn't making many. What's a guy supposed to do? Always had just a Supercab, it's all I need. Guess I'll have to keep looking.

Just curious, what do you plan on doing with the $2200 fix? Is your plan to fix it and then get a brand new truck? The 5.0 liter is a really good engine. You won’t find the common cam phaser issues like in the eco boosts. If you are going to fix it why not stick with it?

I actually just looked on cars.com and found 27 supercabs within 100 miles of me. 2017-2021, 4x4.

I agree. Also shop around for another shop to do the repair. If the stealership quoted you the $2200, then a good local repair place can likely do it for cheaper.

Yea it's getting fixed tomorrow. Gonna keep driving it locally for work, etc. Motor runs great, no oil use. Transmission shifts butter smooth. Only problem is the dam rust on the body. I want to buy a 2015 or newer for the aluminum body. Plus I don't really trust the old one for longer trips anymore. Headed west for elk in a couple weeks!... I've shopped around and price to fix is same ballpark at private repair shops.

The way that people use trucks has shifted greatly. For the vast majority of consumers, they're people-carriers first and stuff-carriers second or even third. Unfortunately that means those who prefer more traditional truck setups are going to have more and more trouble finding what they want.

I had that same truck.
I had to replace the engine at 150k

The new engine had cam phaser issues.

After some screwing around on the warranty of it, they got it fixed.

Transmission went at 175

Truck got sold at about 190

I was pretty hard on that truck though.

I would hazard a guess it is simply a demand thing. You can order a new supercab from any dealer at any time, so they are available. I bet Ford looks at the data and only builds to those numbers.

Everyone is building for passenger comfort and more legroom means crewcabs. May be hard to find as well, but look for a longbed crewcab.
I ordered a new F150 in 20. At that time they didn't make F150 crew long boxes. Only supercab with an 8' box. Has that changed?

Yes. The 8' bed is now only available on regular cabs. It's been going away over the years but used ones are still out there to be found.

2023 still had 8' Supercabs, not sure about beyond that.

Have you looked at how much room is inside the full crews these days? A lot more than their used to be.

Curious - how often are guys that have had the phasers fail changing their oil?

Manufacturer's have grouped popularity in packages and taken away the ability to order a real work or hunting rig (no carpet, ...) too many unnecessary bells and whistles. ✌️

The only place I have ever heard of phasers failing is the internet. I know of a LOT of ecoboosts (have owned 5) and have never heard of a phaser fail. I am sure when you sell a million a year, a few will fail no doubt. I just don't think it is a problem % wise. Google your favorite motor and AI will tell you it has a bunch of problems.
