Have a new lab puppy, training her for upland hunting first and waterfowl second. Looking for an e collar with tone and vibrate options. Would rather give a forum member cash than a big box store.

Don’t think I need GPS options- labs don’t range or run off like pointers and setters.

If anyone has a collar they’re willing to part with, let me know.

If you don't find one from a member, I suggest outdoor dog supply.

Ive dealt with them alot over the years. Easy ordering, customization on collars. Good people.

Just got a check cord from gundogsupply, but I’ll check out that site as well.

I’m also looking at used items on eBay. A couple decent deals, but need to be careful as some are missing parts.

Agreed. In my mind just buy a Garmin training collar, brand new and be done with it. It will last as long as the dog, and no worries about previous owner issues.

Fair enough. Trying to save a few bucks as I’m saving for a wedding.

I was looking at the sportdog 425-x. 500 yard range, waterproof, and they didn’t screw me out of my Navionics subscription like Garmin.

Good to know. Our el-cheapo collar is on its last leg so I’m shopping too. Don’t mean to hijack this post here, but I am following it to glean any helpful info!

Just don’t snipe my eBay finds! 😂

We got a Dogtra when we first brought home the (now) old dog. It’s still working like a champ (12 years). Bought a Sport Dog for the new pup, but ended up trading collars. The Sport Dog’s correction isn’t as adjustable (only 6 settings vs 0-99 on the Dogtra) and for the young dog, it was too much juice even at the low end. The old dog doesn’t really need a collar at this point, other than the vibrate comes in handy to get her attention because she can’t hear much anymore.

If you don’t need GPS and find a used Dogtra, might not be a bad option.

I've had my Garmin for 7 years and it works really well for what I need. Tone and vibe and illumination options.

I've made a handful of purchases from GunDogSupply and they've always been very easy to work with.
X2 on the Garmin and gundog supply. The Garmin is tough as nails. Had it for 8 years. I dropped one of the remotes out of my pocket on my sxs. In a foot of snow. Found it three months later after I had ran it over several times apparently. Still works like new. Can't say enough good about them.

That doesn’t sound right, looking at the manual. There’s 3 collar settings, with 6 levels of intensity on the remote.

I plan to set it Low Range, Mode 1, V/T setting to get vibration and tone on the buttons. That’s the plan, at least.

@El Jason @R.K. I’m recalling the specifics on the settings incorrectly for sure then. It’s been a couple years since I messed with it, but I do remember spending a weekend working through the manual to try to get it set up for her, and the supposed lowest setting still elicited way too much reaction.

Entirely possible it’s operator error on my part I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️
