Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

A friend in Virginia City installed an aspen floor in his cabin loft. It seems to hold up if properly finished with strong protective coating.
Okay, I figured so. I’m really wanting to try it. This cabin won’t get 30 use days a year. I bet it would last a lifetime when finished properly.

We play a lot of Euchre and we have some trouble keeping track of the trump suit. So I made a box that holds a deck of cards and can be used to mark the suit.

The first one I made ended up going with my daughter to college a few weeks ago. So I made a couple more. One is going in my wife's purse and the other is going to my mom.

I'll try to make a couple more for Christmas presents. Not to hard to make and I really enjoy using magnets for closures.

We have recently gotten in to puzzles. But we discovered that we have to do them fast and then put them away or the cats will destroy/scatter them.

So I decided to build a puzzle board.

I looked at a lot of online resources and then kind of went my own way with a design. It's not terribly different from other offerings out there. I have 4 shallow drawers that can be used for sorting. I used magnets to keep the drawers in place and I opted not to add a turntable under it. I made it large enough for 2000 piece puzzles and with the exception of the plywood on top and bottom, mit is all made out of wood I had laying around in my shed.

I am still trying to decide what I want to use for a cover. I could get a sheet of thick plastic, like plexiglass, or maybe some pleather. I am also considering using some deerskin I had tanned up.

I've been working on this cross for my buddies grave. I originally cut it from a Black Walnut stump. It's been drying and twisting for over a year. The tree was cut about 4-5 years ago. When it got dry enough below 8-10% it finally quit twisting and moving so I could cut the final shape and start finishing it. A few more coats of finish and it wil be ready to install . It's around 30" tall and 16"wide nearly 4" thick.IMG_20251225_153203074.jpg

what are you planning on mounting the cross on? Looks good by the way.

I suppose I could see that based on the specimen you’re working with.

A while ago, I shot a doe and my wife asked if I could do a Euro mount of the Doe's skull. I assured her that I could and she said that she wanted to have it on display in her high school biology classroom.

I got the skull cleaned, but then I lost sight of the project for a while, partly due to other things going on and partly due to me being nervous about trying to build the glass box.

I decided it was time and I put it all together. It wasn't very hard, but I was nerve wracking. I like how it turned out and I will probably do more things ike this in the future.

On the upside, all of the wood was scrap from other projects I have done in the past.IMG_6769.jpeg
