Winter Mortality in Interior Alaska

Big ice jam flooding Manley Hot Springs on the Tanana River.
Ice is going out, but not yet budburst.

This cow survived the winter but was moving pretty quickly around our yard trying to find buds to browse 2 days ago.

3 inches of snow at 1000 feet elevation yesterday.

The moose are all looking pretty healthy around here now. Nice flat shiny coats. The second round calves probably had a tough time as I have only seen one I believe. We currently have a cow with a calf hanging around. Real large bull print out back a couple days ago.
Yeppers most of the snow is gone. Time to go antler hunting. Find some fiddlehead ferns n go get a batch of grayling while there running. A mothers day outing around here.
Hey a little pike pothole just opened up so should be hot for some fresh pike or poor man's lobster. And taking the family out

This was about 18 feet high on one of our aspen trees.
The snow bank was about 12 feet high.

Budburst and spring green-up below 1000 feet.
Still quite the snowpack above 2000 feet elevation.

This little bull survived the winter.

I saw 5 along the road yesterday.
Saturday night I saw a nice little paddle bull.
