Wild Harvest Cook-off

I’m a ravioli guy, it’s on the meal plan for this week. Something tells me my Kirkland won’t stand a chance to Ammo’s.

Ok we're about an hour and some change out. Mr.A is actually cooking a northern thai stew as the glaze over the elk medallions. It's quite good and really packs a punch! I have toasted my hazelnuts, squeezed lemons, and microplaned some nice pecorino romano. Onsite at the harvest off (not hosting! kitchen stadium disadvantage!) I'll have to boil up the ravs and create the brown butter sage sauce. I'm really surprised y'all are discounting competitor #3 that gave me the bomb tartare recipe about a month or so ago. He's a good cook ... the game is afoot!

THE FIELD OF COMPETITORS

  • Already intro-ed, the 3 elk hunters (dishes pictured above, plus another elk adobo taco dish that SLAPPED)
Harvest ladies:
  • Italian au pair
  • Vegan mom
  • 2 cocktail ladies
Upon entering kitchen stadium I discovered that Vegan Mom was also cooking sage brown butter (butternut squash) ravioli! Scandalous. Also delicious!

The Italian au pair made a dish of regional northern pasta - comfort food that you’d serve in a refugio made with cheese, cabbage, and garden herbs.

Drinks were served (pisco sour made with backyard eggs, old fashioned made with backyard sourced cherries), mains were dished up, groans of satiation were heard all around. Then, the voting. Everyone got 3 votes. There were 12 people, 3 vegan/vegetarian…🤔🧐🤔

….the tartare, elk ravioli, and thai elk tied for third place

…refugio au pair pasta for second place

…butternut squash ravioli for first!

If the cast of judges was unilaterally omnivorous would that have changed the outcome? Perhaps.

The real winner in this was friendship my freezer which now houses 40+ elk raviolis 😎

They all sound delicious and no doubt the outcomes would have been different with a better judging team.
