Why all the fuss about snake boots?

We all used them for them decades I hunted in South Central and Southwest Florida.
I was more worried about water moccasins than rattlesnakes. We walked around areas that might have a 4-6 inches of water here and there. Snakes were everywhere.

Its warm there. My high boots protected my light weight pants from getting torn up from palmettos and sharp grasses. Lightweight breathable snakeboots kept my feet dry and had the right kind of sole for walking in sandy soil. Too hot for rubber boots there.

In my opinion they were the best option for a boot for hunting that region. They offered more advantages for the conditions and risks than any other footwear. I seriously doubt they would be my first pick for hunting out west. They probably wouldn't be even on list of candidates.
