I have no idea what services offer protection to both the buyer and seller. I haven't used paypal in so long, I might have to set up a new account. What are you guys using?

Venmo. That said, only with folks that I’ve had a conversation with before a transaction. I know some have been burned, but all of the guys I’ve done business with here have been great.

There is no payment system that protects both parties for gun-related sales. Even riflescopes are iffy. PayPal does not allow firearm sales, so if a seller allows the buyer to use goods and services for a gun-related item, PayPal has been known to refund the buyer and ban the seller's account.

Binos/spotters are fine with PayPal goods and services.

So... the consensus seems to be PayPal/Venmo but only with established members. No real protection offered unless you do PayPal goods and services (as long as it isn't guns or ammo).

We have had long term members accounts compromised. Speaking to the seller is a must. A guy selling a rifle scope from Montana shouldn't sound like a guy from Nigeria.

PayPal is terrible. Even when you're 100% confident of the other party, PayPal can screw it up and there's no recourse. I bought a scope from Dave N. He sent me all his info correctly, I sent it just as requested and PayPal sent it to the wrong recipient. They said that seeing as how I sent it friends and family there was nothing they would do because I sent it FF and they weren't responsible for the error on their part. The person that received it finally refunded it after nearly a month. PayPal? Fuggem!
