This might be a stupid question, but I wonder if someone can tell me what kind of action this is? I should know way more about this gun than I do. It's a custom 257 Bob my dad had made for me many years ago. I think it is a Springfield action but that is about all I know. I would really like to find a nice walnut stock for this gun but I don't know what would fit

looks like a springfield to me, but I'm no an expert.

Check richards Microfit they do custom stock work, and also sell unfinished pre-fit and 95% inlet stocks. Pretty reasonably priced. Checkering is expensive, or a fun hobby to try.

Boyds is another option, but their QC isn't great, and their finish is really ugly as are their stock designs, but they're reasonable and you can bolt one on pretty easy.

Definitely a 1903 Springfield but hard to tell which variant. Safety looks a little different to me, so *possibly* an aftermarket addition. There should be a roll stamp on the receiver under where your front scope base is located that will give you the specific manufacturer, model and serial number.
