What gun do you regret selling?

I couldn't find that this thread existed so let me know if you find one.

Lots of fun threads right now about problem/favorite guns and reloading. However I haven't seen one about regrets about getting rid of one. So tell me about your regretful sales.

Mine is a 280 Rem in a Winchester feather weight. It was a cool gun and shot pretty well however I picked it up in 2020 and had a terrible time finding ammo. Eventually I traded it in to get my wife a new gun. Not even a year later I got really into reloading. I still think about that gun.....

I had a lever action .35 Remington for my first rifle at 12 years old. Traded / Sold at a gun show to upgrade to a Ruger M77 .30-06 that I still have. But I should have kept it! Not enough wisdom at 14 years old to keep both. Shame on my dad for letting me get rid of it. I do remember him saying... it's your money, your choice...

Buying used rifles when ammunition is scarce is my #1 strategy.

Some days i wish i still had the collections of european surplus rifles i sold off a decade ago. I liked them but they are not practical for the hunting I do.

I have 3 that I will never get rid of. My first .22 lr that my dad got me at 7 years old CZ Scout, my first big game rifle M77 Hawkeye .270 win, and an old Savage 30-30 pump that my grandpa got my dad and uncle back in the 70s.

I regret not buying 30 Mosin's when they were $79. Saw one at Cabelas the other day and it was $600!

I was getting ready for my first elk trip & had convinced myself that I absolutely had to have a 300 wby. So I accepted a ridiculous trade in value for a very accurate 25-06 Ruger #1. However, I did end up trading the 300 Wby for a very nice Sako Finnlight. Hated that Wby Mark V FiberMark...

...trading the #1 was bonehead move.

30-06 Remington Woodsmaster black synthetic stock my Grandpa give me. It was messed up and wouldn’t eject properly. Stupid me traded it for some Savage 30-06 bolt action. Both great guns but I should have kept it for memories sake. Grandpa is gone and I got to have some others from him, so I plan to hang on to them tight! For instance, CVA .45 Firebolt.

One year I had to sell a lot of guns in order to pay rent, have enough to get my wife something for Christmas, etc.

One that shouldn't have gone was a 4" S&W model 66. That little pistol couldn't miss.

In the late 70’s I took a Winchester 32 special model 94 , an old one with the saddle ring and flip up sight , in on a , let’s say trade .
It was carved on both sides , a Bear on one side and Buck on the other , but it wasn’t really that nice of a job .
I sold it to a friend while on a bender with the agreement if he ever sold it I got first crack at it . Sold it for $100 in 79 I think .
He started laughing and said I’ll never sell it so you lost it .
Joe used that gun every deer season till he died .
His family still has it , a treasured family heirloom.

In 1993 I sold my half of a few shares of an upcoming stock that was given to me as a wedding gift. I got about $750 and bought a 27” Sony Trinitron TV that weighed about 80lbs. I remember tossing that old thing in a dumpster decades ago. At the time, I hadn’t heard of the company that the stock was for. I really wish I had held onto it as it would have bought me dozens of fancy expensive rifles at today’s value, likely approaching 6 figures by now. Stock was Home Depot.

Yep. At about that same time I talked to a rep for an upstart company. Entry level, training, benefits yeah whatever. Office isn't for me and this isn't going anywhere. Sprint at the time. TMobile now. Yeah, didn't go anywhere. mtmuley

I didn’t sell it, but I think my brother did. It was my dad’s pre-64 Winchester 1894 in 30-30. The rest of my dad’s guns were there after my brother died, but not that one.
