Well this is new to me

Some of them had to be the film crew and support staff. At least one or two were R&D for new gear. Also a marketing rep. Cmmon man! this is normal, nothing new.
could be. Meat eater used to push WI hunts on Doug's farm, is he still around and are they still promoting it these days?

This morning my buddy and I were supposed to meet at a public hunting ground not too far from where we work. Gun deer rifle season is open. I show up there about 40 minutes before shooting light and it would not have been uncommon for there to be a truck already there but what I found was a Uhaul and 4 rental SUV's with 10 young guys getting dressed head to toe in Kuiu and Firstlite. They are from Montana and when I asked them what brought them to WI they said the deer hunting sucks there and they read that the county I live in has a lot of big whitetails.

My buddy and I just went to work.

No Sitka? Wow, they support California and Idaho but not there home state?

Huh. Role reversal. mtmuley
I would have never guessed you for a role play kind of guy.

This makes me ponder Minnesota for me. I have family and an old hunting partner there. My family has killed some big bucks and wants to come out, but it’s a haul and I don’t like only sitting in stands. Boring…

huh? No atv's....
Suv's must be the new atv's

You mean to the bar for a morning bloody followed up by some mid day spotted cow and capped off with some ole fashioneds?
Here is the key: You have to be mobile and not committed to any one bar. The options are endless and any bar this time of the year has the protentional to produce a high quality environment. You may run across some yoopers, or find a bar full of people shaming the FIB brother-in-law sitting down drinking a vodka tonic. Being mobile also has its perk as you just very well may get a big buck in the process (roadkill) and you'll be the only truck in the parking lot with a buck on your tailgate.

Just so any NRs on here don’t get a ticket: Wisconsin state law states that you have to drive around with a buck hanging off the tailgate for minimum of three days before processing, regardless of temperature. I think it’s a CWD thing.

while never leaving the bar. Its an obligation to stay in the bar on a three day drunk

We were on our way to Kenosha one year the Friday after Thanksgiving, probably on 151 between Dodgeville and Madison. The car in front of us hit a small forkhorn. The next 5 vehicles stopped to see what the car was going to do with the deer.

I hope they try a 9-day hunt in the Chequamegon-Nicolet next year. That would be the most epic hunting report ever.
Why is that? Those are my home stomping grounds for learning to hunt growing up as a kid. Part of the family still has a deer camp up there. Man I miss those days and I really need to go. Some good deer hunting up there.

I hope they all at least shoot a dink. Can’t go home without any meat.

I saw 4 guys from Ohio a couple weeks ago hunting here in Montana. They were on week 4 of their big 5 week hunt. They each shot 120-140” mule deer and 1 of 4 finally shot a bull that morning and I’m not sure it was even legal (super dinky). They were hunting hard, backpacked into a hell hole. That morning hiking in we saw a group of about 120 elk with 3 rag horn bulls in it. Makes sense based on the advertised bull:cow ratio. I bet it’s 0:100 by the time those boys finished up in there. Hard to imagine burning that much time for such crappy hunting but gotta hand it to them for getting after it.
