I'm going to the office in a few to download some pictures. I tell you what, I'd of liked to spend more time Chatting with ya Brokfut in the upper blinds, but the duck action was a little better on the river then the goose action up above
I tell you guys what, Brokfut is about the best guy !!! He played Taxi service for me retrieving 3 of the 6 ducks I got. The first duck I shot went too far out in the river so I called him Via Cell phone (We were about 500 yards away but forgot the radios.) He was willing to Fire up his Jet boat and run down the river to get a stinking duck for me. Fortunately It floated downstream and Elkturd grabbed it so I didn't need him on that one. Later I smoked 2 ducks out of a group. One floated downstream again. and the other was Straight away from me and would go underwater anywhere from 18-22 seconds then pop back up. It was across the river and too far for my to even shoot his "BOBBING" head, so I kept an eye on him and waited. Him and ElkTurd got in the boat and came up river and waited for the little devil to pop back up. ElkTurd was on the other shore and finished the little "BOBBER" off for me. I won't say that he missed the first shot
Elkturd stayed in my blind hoping for some action. We had a bird flying mock speed down the river and he said "DUCK's COMING". He said it was a single so I dropped my gun and Grabbed the camcorder. unfortunately It was here before I had it on. The duck flew staight at us and right into the bb's. it was going so fast that it was shot upstream and landed downstream of us. It was the First Hooded Merganser that we've ever taken. I'll have another topic with pictures.
There was 2 geese that came over us and ElkTurd and Me pulled up on them. We blasted and they locked up and glided upstream. The guys in the blind Upstream unloaded and finished them off. We were getting feathers raining on us so I know the hits were good. BUT, Not good enough to drop them right at us. Such is life I guess...
Then Another single duck came in and We both pulled up on it. I waited for Elkturd, He waited for me.. Finally I shot and toasted the left wing... It coasted down across the river and another call to BrokFut was in order. We went across the river looking for the little guy. He tucked under some brush and wouldn't come out. We drove back and forth with the boat trying to locate it and then I went to the bank and walked. It finally came Bolting out and I yelled "Coming your way Jack" (Jack = brokfut). But, To my surprise it stopped quick right in front of me and I made a finishing water sluece shot.
The guys decided to stay the full day and I had to make the call to the wife. Wasn't a good call but she let me stay
The evening hunt gave us 0 opertunity for shooting. But was fun non-the-less. We unloaded the guns Prmptly at 5:37 (I think it was that) and the ducks and geese cam in by the 100's after that. I'm not sure if they know or what ?!?!?! BUt we left the guns and Was picking up decoys and they tried landing on us. Was fun seening them non-the less..
Larry (My boss) and Brokfut did simutaneously shoot a lone goose and at the end of the day neither one could decide who's it was so They sent it home with me.
I think that's the last day I'll get to go out this year. Unless I slip out before work once. this Friday (OR something like that) the seasqon ends...
I did get my Golden EYE pair yesterday and also dinger got the hooded merganser that he's gonig to mount. It's a cool looking bird. My Taxidermist made out well this year. I got a pair of Wood ducks into him A pair of Green winged teal, a PAir of golden eyes, my hen MAllard to go with the drake and 4 geese. I plan on having 6 geese for the living room. Looks like Next year I'll have to finish the Decorations...
Funny how last year I didn't know any ducks names except for the Greenhead which isn't even the proper name, And this year I have 7 different species of them.
I think Next year... Well, later this year. I'll need to finish up some of my pairs. My goal is to have a MAle/Female set of ducks of all the mojor local ducks. I'll need to bug someone for the RED HEADS, the Shovelers, and a few others that just don't frequent our Flyway. BUT, Thats a bit later.
