Saturday's forecast was for cold, wind and snow, what more could a goose hunter ask for? Had big plans to go put the hurting on of geese then go watch the the Bobcats win, well half the plan came together.

We were in a pea field that was where some of the geese around wanted to be. The guys were shooting great and we were in and out of the field quickly. On the last flock I spotted a bird that just looked different and knocked it down. I thought the stars were aligned for me as we were done and we still had time to get back to town for the kick off. I was so happy I even let my Griz hunting buddy pose with it.

One of the young guns with us and the birds for the day.

Watched the game and decided I need to take my anger out on more geese Sunday morning. It dawned bright and COLD and windy, we left town the temp said -1 and when we arrived in the field we were going to hunt it said -10?

Anyway the goose hunting gods must have been disgruntled Cat fans as well and they wanted to vent their frustration on the birds.

We had a couple of young guns with us and we should them the joys of all the work that goes with hunting waterfowl.

A great time was had by all and we were again back to town fairly early. BTW geese love Chick Peas.

Looks like a good time to me. We'll be off trying to get some kind of in the decoys in the morning. Congrats on a great looking hunt. Nice pics.

Draftstud,

This bird are referred to as a Quill Lakes Goose. Legend has it that the goose population that thrives around Quill Lakes in Sask. Canada has allowed a hybrid to develop referred to as a Quill Lakes Goose. I am uncertain of the accuracy of this claim but they make some great mounts and conversation pieces. This is the third one I have seen hit the ground and the first one I have killed.

It stuck out like a sore thumb on the last flock of the day and I was lucky enough to make a goose shot on it.

I was gonna ask if you had another pic of the head till I read your reply to draftstud. My first thought was quills. We get them here in CO up north.

Very cool score! Congrats

Great day in the field and a very nice Guill. I have seen a few with the white barring on the chest but not many with the neck stripe. A mounter for sure!

Congrats to you sir on what was obviously a fine hunt and a great trophy.

Are you getting it mounted?

A number of years back I saw an older gent take one similar to this but it is the only one I ever saw.
