Man it was tuff . Saturday the wind about blew us away. Saw one hen in the field and one hen on the way back to the cabin for lunch. In the afternoon I stayed back to help a buddy fix the waterheater in his cabin while my oldest boy went back out in the wind. Turns out he saw one hen in the field again.
My younger boy,who was hunting with my dad, Saw some toms a few hundred yards out but couldnt call em in. Probably because in that wind the toms couldnt here the call.
Sunday morning we all got out and set up and the gobblers let loose. Man I thought their on fire today. They proved me wrong. Once they came out of the roost they went silent. We hunted one spot for a while then decided to make a move. After a few hours of no turkeys our stomachs got the best of us and we headed in for eggs and sausage.
Turns out dad and Devon only saw hens. My buddy Joe saw some toms but they ignored his calls also. When I sent everybody a text message about eggs and sausage, it didnt take long before they were pulling back into camp. After that it was time to pack up for the drive home.
After we got home I got some sleep before work( I work 3rd shift) And the two boys ( connor and Devon ) headed to a little spot down the road from home. And once again no turkeys. After all is said and done it was a fun weekend, but out of five of us not a shot was fired. Weve still got some time so hopefully things turn around.
Good luck to everybody that still have tags to fill.
