I’ll be picking up a 13x16 wall tent next week. Anyone have recommendations on a good stove model? I’m looking for one that has decent capacity, don’t expect it to run all night but only having to get up once to stoke it would be nice. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

I have literally spent hours researching tents stoves last couple weeks. Pulled the trigger on a Riley "Wrangler" stove today.
I narrowed it down to Riley, Cylinder Stove, Four Dog brands. I think there are several good brands to pick from. However I haven't actually used any tent stoves before so learning experience for me. I will be using a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector in my 16' White Duck Regatta tent. Also a fire retardant mat underneath.

The Riley’s are good stoves. I have one. However, the main benefit of a Riley IMO is for horse packing. If you are unloading from the back of a pickup I’d get one of the heavier metal styles.

The Riley’s work well but they don’t damper down and hold a fire as well as some others I’ve been around.

Yeah I agree biggest decision is to determine if you want a 75 lb stove or a 15 lb stove. We have been running a Knico stove that is the Alaskan model and I does what you are suggesting but it is similar to the Riley in that it sheet metal so it doesn’t hold the heat like a cylinder stove or four dog is going to. We truck camp but are still conscious of weight for packing everything into a 5.5 pickup box 1/2 ton.

Man, bummer...
Last two post has me second guessing on the Riley stove and I haven't even received it from my order yesterday. Love the idea of light weight but not the thought of it not holding heat as well. I guess I could send it back for refund and order the Cylinder Stove Yukon. 🤷

I have the Colt. My buddy has the Wrangler. The difference in fire capacity is noticeable.

How old are you going to be camping in?

With my Colt I’ll absolutely have to get up in the night once. Maybe twice to stoke it. The Wrangler is once. It is nice to set up the lighter stove for sure.

Well this first trip will be Colorado 1st rifle mid Oct so I'm not sure. But the bigger picture is I was wanting a solid stove not only for this trip but but future trips. Would like something that will do good in any cold seasons.

Im in the same boat, just got a stove that came with a second hand wall tent purchase… suspect it will be on the light side for my usage (no plans to pack it far from the truck). Will be in Colorado for first rifle to give it a try.
On the bright side I’ll be up 2-3x every night anyways to take a leak so I don’t need an all night burn

I have the small Davis cylinder stove that I got as a package with my tent. The stove itself is good quality, but I definitely wish I had gone with a bigger one. Being able to fit bigger rounds in it would have me getting up a lot less in the middle of the night to stoke the fire. I’ve considered upgrading, and I probably will eventually.

I admittedly don’t have experience with anything else, but I bought a Four Dog Stove for our 12 x 20 Alaknak and have been happy with it.

I have three cylinder stoves, A Yukon for the 14x20, a hunter for 12x16 and the 12x12 Spike 111gets the smaller one, forget the name. Burned out a couple of Riley's over the years but they have their place. I think the Yukon I have is pushing 20, works great. The Yukon and Hunter will hold a fire over night, Actually the Yukon hardly requires any kindling all week, just keep it loaded before bed, in the morning throw fresh wood in before starting the coffee.

I really like my Riley. Stove pipes all stack inside nice and it doesn't weigh a ton. I'll take that trade-off over a bit longer lasting heat. I have to close it down all the way anyway at night in my 12'x14' tent or it gets too hot.
