W Virginia bear hunting

I'm looking into my first bear hunt and was considering West Virginia. Does anyone have any experience in the Mountain State that wouldn't mind sharing some info? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Its all a game of chance if you aren't using dogs. I own land in Bath County Va and its one of the top counties for bear in VA and we get bears on camera all year until rifle bear season comes in then they are go nocturnal. I've lived in WV too and I and most people in both states who kill bear normally kill bears while deer hunting. I can give you recommendations of some areas in Virginia and WV via PM if you want.

Scott said it all. Hard to pull off without dogs. It can happen but not reliably.
