I flew out to TX to kick off Turkey season with some longtime hunting buddies. We’ve got access to a ranch about an hour south of San Antonio.
I spent Saturday hunting with a buddy and blew an opportunity at a nice bird due to a mis communication. We rallied and eventually he closed the deal on a nice 2.5 year old gobbler.
I hunted on my own this morning and was on birds quickly but they henned up quickly. Patience paid off and I worked a group of 4 longbeards into about 10 yds. Killed the first while he was fighting my Jake decoy, and killed the second while he was attacking his dead buddy. Hunting turkeys in the mesquite and prickly pear was a new experience for me. Season opens this week in back home in SC and I’m looking foreward to getting home and chasing our local birds.
