Got a good bird from MO on opening week. It's a place I've hunted since college, and have been playing cat & mouse with birds in the same roosting tree in a big ravine every year just over the property line. This is the first bird we got to play the game the way we wanted. Pretty good one, too- beard was close to 11", spurs over an inch (even the broken one). Bird was following three hens who milled around in front of me for a while, then came past in a good opening. He was trailing a bit, and finally showed himself bringing up the rear as they were leaving- bird down at 7:30. They came in to a push button call and leaf scratching- nothing wrong with going low-tech.

Dad had a bad cough and opted to hunt separate. Wish he had been there with me for this bird, but oh well- at least he was there for the pictures.

And last but not least- I'm sold on permethrin-treating your clothes. Found 20+ ticks crawling on my clothes, but not a single one was on my skin, and no bites anywhere. I'm never going turkey hunting again without it.

Dummkopf me can't post pictures!

Got my Idaho cross of Merriam/Eastern this morning. I spotted five crossing our field while having coffee, so told my wife to get up and grab her call. I headed down a ditch behind a fence line and got behind a tree and some brush. She started calling and here they came down the other side of the fence. Mr Tom took a lot of #6 shot in his head and neck at 15 yards from my 1960 era Mossy 500. Back to the house I went, got some twine, knifes, ss pan, paper towels and my sweet wife did the rest. I let the biggest one pass so she can get it next time.
