Trying new rifles this season

Seriously though savage was my gateway drug to rifle tinkering in my teenage years. Back when they were staggered feed there was tons of stock options. You could change bolt heads out and magazines and had the barrel nut you could use to headspace prefits. “Built”my first rifle off a savage at 13 years old. Turned a 30-06 into a 338-06 with a prefit barrel off midway.
Followed your path, but started in my late 20’s. I’m also going down the path of quickly being done with Savages.

My rifle is kinda new. Had a Gre-Tan firing pin, spring and bolt shroud installed. Replaced the J-lock of over 25 years. mtmuley

I guess your loyalty in the end meant nothing to Legacy Sports, but that’s how corporations work now a days. Sad, but hopefully a new rifle manufacturer will step forward and help you move your platform forward and to a newer and better level. Good luck with your hunting season this year.

My wife's X-Bolt 6.5 manbun Micro Midas is a one ragged hole group at 100 yards all day long. Crazy accurate with almost every ammo.

I bought the same rifle for my kids. It’s all I’ve used for 3 years now. That thing is ridiculously accurate, only regret is that it’s not stainless steel.

My wife’s 1990’s vintage 308 A-Bolt stainless stalker became one of the most accurate guns in my house once I found bullets it likes. The body count on that thing is… high…

Going straight from dogahit to cowpies. Only rifle I ever almost smashed against a tree was a Browning A-Bolt - 100% garbage.

My parents gave my brother and me Browning A-Bolts in 300 WM for Christmas one year. My brother’s shot fine, but my targets looked like I had shot them with 00 buck from a 12 gauge. It got traded for a Remington 700 in 300 RUM. It shot great.

I have heard good things about the X-Bolt, and I actually have a NIB X-Bolt Eclipse in 270 Win that I won in a gun bash several years ago. I think I am going to take it to the local auction since I can’t use a RH thumb hole stock and my daughter doesn’t need it (because she has a Tikka 6.5 CM).
