Trapping Thread 2025/2026

View attachment 402417View attachment 402418Got permission to trap a property from some folks at church. To their knowledge it has never been trapped. Put out two traps last night, we are definitely still learning how to do this. I do not know much about raccoon behavior, but we found some tracks in the mud by a creek. Placed some sardines in the traps and some around for a bit more scent. Came back this morning and viola two raccoons. My boy was already talking about coming back next weekend, I think we are going to have to pick up a few more traps… and a better way to skin the tails, I am not fast by any means.
Well done!

What addicting said.
I’m getting sick of both of y’all’s crap.
There’s a very simple solution. Just automatically ban folks that make unprovoked personal attacks. Something I’ve never done once in 30 years on 10+ forums. IMHO this is the only policy that works.

Says the guy who came back the next day trolling the other one's posts making snide comments. All you had to do was shut your mouth but you kept digging.

Just in case we are missing the reason for my post; you came in here and made a pointless comment, directed at him, about his post in a trapping thread.

If you two want to continue your stuff, PM each other.

Otherwise the back and forth across this forum and multiple threads ends today.

You had many pullouts using that cable loop method?

I tried that one year and I had a bunch of pullouts so I switched to earth anchors and placed them where they couldn't reach anything and never had another pullout.
I’ve slowly been getting away from the longer cables. I’ve had a few pullouts. The majority of the time was in a congested area of small saplings. They’d grab onto them to get added leverage.

This worked out because it’s the only tree within a a safe radius.

I still use them occasionally, but I’ve slowly been reducing the cables or just going with stakes.

My oldest grandson will be 9 tomorrow. He's been trapping with his Dad, and really getting into it. Somewhere around here I have a picture of him trying his best to hold a beaver up that was as big as he was from a few years back. This year they've taken some nice coons, coyotes, a nice cat, and one of the biggest male fishers (and I used to check furs, seen quite a few) I've ever seen.

He wanted traps for his birthday, so he's getting some MB 450's--and a pair of snowshoes--from Grandpa.

Dave, I tried your brilliant method for the last 3 YEARS. Guess what? It didn’t work.

What fantasy world do you live in? Your suggestion only encourages them to continue. Mallard & others have been attacking for 3 YEARS, with no intervention. Are you aware of that??? How about leaving people alone in the first place!!!???

Dude, you returned and antagonized him! How's that fitting in with leaving people alone? You were being a dick.
