Trapping Thread 2025/2026

Alright I’m at a loss at what animal leaving these tracks. They are about as big as a Copenhagen can. I’m guessing a Mustelidae Family from the 2x2 track just have no idea what it would be

are there wolverines in Eastern Montana?

Been hitting the beavers again now that the water has opened back up. I didn’t feel like battling the ice, so we waited. Caught 5 in the last couple days. Biggest was 46 lb and the smallest was 17 lb. All damage control beavers. One landowner was about ready to go full Rambo on beavers and we talked him into letting us trap some before he brings out the heavy artillery. These things are an absolute blast to trap. Takes some heavy gear, but actually pretty darn easy.IMG_3877.jpegIMG_3875.jpeg

IMG_5422.jpegIMG_5419.jpegGot permission to trap a property from some folks at church. To their knowledge it has never been trapped. Put out two traps last night, we are definitely still learning how to do this. I do not know much about raccoon behavior, but we found some tracks in the mud by a creek. Placed some sardines in the traps and some around for a bit more scent. Came back this morning and viola two raccoons. My boy was already talking about coming back next weekend, I think we are going to have to pick up a few more traps… and a better way to skin the tails, I am not fast by any means.
