Picked up a big beaver Friday. Got my left thumb today. Those 330s hurt.

Got my right thumb the first or second year trapping in high school. Raised welt on the bone for 3 months….

I am so nervous about that. I use a safety. Wouldn’t use one without it.

I hate using a safety. They are a pain. But I decided today, as I was trying to get that trap off my thumb, that I hate getting fingers in traps even more. I’m going to start using them.

I use a safety with 330’s but that’s the only bodygripper I use them with. I’m sure a 220 will get me eventually.

I've caught myself in footholds plenty and they don't do much. I'm sure a conibear doesn't feel great.

Well the log set hit on a nice female today. And he picked up another raccoon. That makes 72 raccoons

Another big beaver this morning! Caught a couple possums too, but the beaver was the big prize of the day.

Sewed up a quick prototype can coozie from some extra otter fur I had tonight. Kind of a neat little project.

I wasn’t going to start until after deer season, but it’s in the 70s so I figured shift gears for a few days.

I set a couple more sets today and freshened up another couple. Baited a cat set with a coon carcass those always seem to hit. I’d say I will have a cat by the end of the weekend.

Christmas haul was good.
Double digits for the first set of the season.

One thing I’m going to try this year is hammer one farm at a time with all my traps verse hitting multiple farms with a few traps then rotate.

This partially excludes some coyote and bobcat sets that I’ll cover with cams.

Farm one - GR farm (150 acres. Mostly ag with some small timber fingers and a thin hedge line)
3 raccoons & 7 possums

Do you do anything with the possum? I can't really find anything I like to do with them...

Unfortunately I haven’t either.
I’ve got a buddy I’ve been giving all of my stuff to since I started. He sells all the hides and gives me a small cut end of the year. I don’t ask for it, but he insists. He used to take them, but not anymore….. they end up in a burn pile or ditch.

I run double stakes in the real cold.
