Training dog for sheds

Anybody out there know much about this? what would be the best way to do it? Do you just let the dog run wild while out in the woods? .........Seems like it would be a great time.

I was curious about it as well. I was also thinking it would be a good idea to have the dog snake trained. The snakes will be more active soon and that would be my first concern while shed hunting.

IF you have a bird hunting dog, then it is pretty easy to get them to find sheds as well.... A dog that is willing to retrieve is always best as well..... http://www.sheddogtrainer.com/shed-training-videos.htm

Play fetch with an antler. When he brings it back to you praise the crap outta him. After a few of those, hide antlers around the yard and tell him "find it" which he should already know from bird hunting. He'll figure it out from there.

That being said, I wouldn't have any idea how to train a non-hunting dog....
