Spent last week chasing grouse and woodcock in the North Maine Woods. No woodcock found and a few grouse.

The week started hotter than hell; my old dog actually abandoned the first hunt and walked himself back to the truck.

Saw a bull moose driving in Saturday night, and then had what loooked like a moose calf/yearling hanging out around our lake.

Lots of bear hunters and hounds. Was cool to hear them bawling and barking a couple mornings.

Despite the poor hunting, it was a great time.

Love grouse hunting in the NMW. Life has gotten in the way the last couple of years but I'll be back there next October.

Have only had one year when grouse numbers were poor. It was a wet cool period during the hatch across the area and wiped a lot of chicks out.

Thanks for sharing your hunt!

Hopefully you make it next year. I’ve really grown to like the north woods. We used to hunt Michigan, but I’d rather do Maine anymore.
