today, 10/9/2025, is John Lennon's Birthday

I was negative six months old. I don’t remember much about it

Wasn’t he the heroine addict and an asshole? Just asking as I was too young to care much but read stories about him.

I was 10 when the Beatles came to America. So, they were a big part of that music that was burned into my soul during my informative years. John Lennon wasn't important enough to me to remember where I was or what I was doing when he died. However, I was 26 at the time and I do remember a girl, who was a good friend of mine, asking me if I knew John Lennon once belonged to a band called the Beatles.

She was only seven years younger than me, so it surprised me when she asked that question. That was the first time I realized that I was officially a grown up and no longer one of the cool kids.

I never got into the Beatle-mania but I was around 10-12 when they first appeared on Ed Sullivan (I think). They did produce some kick ass music that still rocks today.

I walk by the Dakota every few weeks in NYC. Lots of people go by because of him - and hangout across the street at "Strawberry Fields" in Central Park, playing his songs.

I was a year old so I remember everything about that day except everything. Went to Prague with my dad about 20 years ago and he wanted to go see the "Lennon wall" where there's a bunch of graffiti memorial stuff for him. We were wandering around trying to find it so we asked a guy walking his dog. At first he didn't know what we were talking about till my dad sang some well known verses, then his eyes lit up and he said "oh LEEnnon, yes John Leennon, not Lenin the Russian dictator!"

That was when I figured out if I used a stereotypical European accent the Czechs and Germans both understood my English better.
