I have a broken slide on a buddies rifle and parts are unobtainium. It an easy weld and the filler rod recommended is a 3-1/2% nickel rod. Does anyone know what the actual rod is? I'd like to pick some up at our local welding supply.

As far as I know its only referred to as 3-1/2% nickel rod. Pretty much only used in gunsmithing. Doubt a welding supply will have any on hand. What kind of rifle are we talking about? Might not necessarily need to be 3.5% nickel rod.

Thanks for the info on availability. Brownells has it listed but was looking to find something locally. It's a Winchester model 100 and parts just don't exist. The 2 Winchester specialist gunsmiths I have talked to recommend the same rod so I'll go with what they say.

You are definitely correct in saying that my local welding supply doesn't have it but would be happy to order me 10# of it. Brownells has 1/2# coming to me hopefully by next week. Unfortunately they were out of the 4oz. packs. I will now have a lifetime supply of 3-1/2% nickel rod.
