What is interesting about that Lightfoot song is that was the first time his band had either heard or played the song, nailed it on the first recording! He had written it, but thought it wouldn't be appropriate for an album, but they need one more song, so they gave it a shot.
Interesting to see this has had a resurgence on TikTok of all places. I remember my parents playing this in the car and I thought it was some of their oldies music. But I always liked the song. Didn’t realize until much later that this was really a very fresh tragedy at the time.
My mom's side of the family came from the Iron Range in MN so always felt a connection to this song. She saw Gordon Lightfoot in concert in the late 70s somewhere in Minneapolis.

The song, the story, and the man Gordon Lightfoot himself have always intrigued me... it doesn't get much better than this.
