Not Virginia anymore!
So being the awesome husband that I am, I went out and got my wife a Kitchen Aid mixer for her birthday. She's been wanting one ever since we got married a few years back. I have also been in the market for a meat grinder. Wouldn't you know it, they were running a rebate for a free meat grinder attachment with the purchase of a five quart mixer. I allowed her to get one batch of cookies in before I started on my elk:D Seriously, Kitchen Aids are ridiculous. There worth every one of the 30,000 pennies I paid for it. You can't kill them. I ran through my elk without having to clean the blade or grader once.

You are a brave man to buy a home appliance as a birthday gift...especially one you might use the most.

And yes they do great on meat grinding. Just keep in mind you should let it cool down at some point, as in do not keep it running for 40 pounds of meat or you may learn they have limits to what they can withstand.

What do you know, I just finished grinding 25 lbs of deer meat with my wifes kitchen aid about an hour ago; always works great.

My sister got one as a wedding present, it's currently at my house awaiting antelope...

I always figure to a woman a Vacumn or a Quality Mixer is sorta like me buying a Rifle. Although she was happier with the Grandfather Clock than she was with the Lawnmower I purchased for her. Women, Can't live with em and ya can't shoot em. John;)

I once bought my wife a present so stupid it is unspeakable. Never again. I should have learned from my dad, he infuriated my mom by giving her a waffle iron on mothers day one year. Hmmm.. they were divorced a year later....

Ya just do not buy appliances for a wife as a gift, unless it is truly wanted/asked for and there is actually a remote chance that enjoyable activities can be derived from it. And then you better do a gut-check to be sure it is the right course of action.

The wife and I actually 'split' a kitchen aid mixer as part of xmas one year. We both wanted it and knew we'd enjoy it for many uses, and it was expensive. That worked out alright and we have enjoyed many baking and other cooking activites with that thing. Somehow I always get the meat grinding duty as a solo activity, though:eek:

Those mixers make dough prep for bread baking a snap. A perfect thing to do the warm up the house this winter.

A marriage counselor once asked if I knew what my ex-wife's favorite flower was.

...I said I thought it was Pillsbury.:eek::eek:

On a serious note, can anyone reccommend a good electric tenderizer that won't break the bank. My son and I want to split one.

I use our kitchenaid more than my wife does, and btw, the grinder does a great job on tomatoes for salsa, or just sauce.

Ken I bought the 3/4 HP Grinder from Bass Pro and bought a real nice attachment to tenderize my steaks. Run them a chunk though once, fold and run again, makes a real nice cutlet! I believe it was made by LEM. At the time I believe it was $199 for the attachment, probably $300 by now, but it has paid for it's self. John

You're a brave man; if I bought one it would be for me. My wife likes shiny metal as a gift as long as it has faceted stones attached. Tomorrow I have to pick up fatty trimmings at the butcher and grind my goat burger with my Grandma's hand grinder. That way I can have a visit with her, or at least with her memory.

Years ago, I told my parts house that my wife really liked black and also shiny things, so every time I entered for parts I was asked what the occasion, birthday, anniversary, etc. I usually purchased something there meeting the criteria, but they never did gift wrap for me.:(

My wife asked for one a while back. I told her I'm not fallnig for that trap and she insisted she REALLLY wanted one. Fortunately my mom gave us one and I never had to see if she was kidding or not :p
