Texas controlled hunt

Those deer down there sure are small. Up here they are quite a bit bigger, a good sized buck will be pushing 200 pounds. I haven’t ever shot a doe in Texas but I think I’m going to have to start, I’m over run with them on my new place.

Yeah I feel a bit silly using it. When I went to pick out a rifle from the safe the 243. got some consideration but the 300 is my new toy and I have only got to use it on one hunt. Good news is there was no tracking .

Glad you got to hunt that one and the state park is a pretty place. I was down there with you trying to get on standby but was surprised how many other people had my same idea on a Tuesday for a spike/doe hunt. I didn't get a chance to meet you but good luck on the rest of your hunt!

First visitor of the morning. He hung out about 10 minutes got a bite and headed up the hill im front of me.

Very true. Now that I think about it I've seen bigger does killed in the panhandle and even the piney woods. Should've said biggest doe I've seen killed in Texas south of I20.

Well that lone broke buck was my only visitor for the morning. Will head back out around 2pm looks like the wind is picking up a bit. Didn't see two of the guy's but there were 2 more does and a spike on the skinning pole when I pulled up.

Tweezers are a mandatory part of the hunting kit. Got some use last night and that was just from being careless opening the gate.

Sounds almost exactly like what I tell people about where we hunt (about 4 hours south of you)…everything wants to bite ya, sting ya, or poke ya.

That buck hung out from 3:50- 5:20 pm then a smaller buck came through the last 5 minutes of light. Sounds like it was a rough evening for most of us no deer killed. Although 3 guys are already tagged out. Also I said 3 deer were killed this morning that was incorrect I just only saw 3 on the pole. Apparently 7 deer were killed this morning. Still have some hope can hunt till 11am tomorrow then thats it. Gonna stick with the power line blind really hoping to bring another deer home. Will see how it goes tomorrow. Made fried potatoes, with chicken fajita sausage and a egg on top for good measure.
