My youngest son has a good elk tag and now that the bulls are all but full grown, I went out for a few hours last night to see what is around. One in particular seemed to pique his interest.

Right on! Trying my best to let it be his hunt. It sucks at the moment, he is working in another part of Wyo and can't join me on these scouting trips. Then in a couple weeks he will head back to Laramie. He is working on an Eng degree and has a pretty demanding class load this coming semester. This unit makes travel relatively easy for him but time away from school is going to be limited.

Checked out another portion of the unit yesterday afternoon. Sorry for the crappy pics, I forgot my scope adapter yesterday. In the past two evenings I have seen 33 elk. 0 cows/calves.

Reminds me of the early crowd at a watering hole in Lubbock that designated Thursday evenings as 'nut and bolt' night. The duality of noun/verb applicaton hit me years later.

Both, but I am doubting he will have time for much archery hunting. We will see if he can make it work.

Love seeing the bachelor groups in velvet. Really gives you an idea of what range of antler size there is in the unit.

The local Junior College here did not have classes on Friday. I thought that was a wise schedule move. Hope your son can make his schedule work to get a hunt in. Might be worth a chat with his professors ahead of time.
Simply taking the initiative could only help him and not hurt. Plus he can figure out if Friday or Monday is a better day to miss.

your handle reminds me of a memorable elk encounter on the Thunder Basin not far from Black Thunder mine. We had Deer tags but the bull elk were bugling and cruising. Watched a bull with a broken main beam destroy a lone pine tree out in the washes. Really lit the fire in me.
