Took a couple days to go on a trail ride through the high country. 10 people 12 horses for our first of whats going to be a yearly event. Started out early in the day and with a little rain coming down but as we climbed higher the cloud broke and the sun shone for the remaining 2 days. Climbing for 3800ft to 7300ft the first morning stopping for lunch at an old volcanic lake for tube steak. From the lake it was up hill to the continental divide with more than one stop for a breather along the way. After a look around it was down the back side heading for our base camp for night one.

We planned to stop over at the creek in the bottom right of the first picture then ride up and around the left side of Matkin mountain which is in the center of the first picture. The second picture shows the trail we just came down. The horses were packed away like sardines for the night at our first base camp. Matkin mountian from the south side.
