Subaru questions

I've owned many vehicles over the years in WA and MT, and now strictly only own old Subarus.
1. Never had a frame twist issue. I have to do a lot of suspension work smashing around BLM, FS, and Indian reservation roads, but that's life.
2. I always run ATs on my hunting/fishing beaters, but not chains. Getting more difficult to find ATs in 15 and 16 sizes these days, though. Not sure what size tires you might be thinking about.
3. They handle mud just fine within reason. If you're one of those people who drive through absolute muck thinking, "I don't care if I sink a foot down and completely destroy this road and the ground," then Subarus might not be your best choice.

With independent suspension all the way around, I'm not sure you could really get yourself in a situation to twist the unibody without screwing something else up first. I've never had any problem with it.
I have Falken Wildpeak A/T trails, never had an issue with them. It's hard to find a true A/T in the size you need for these.
Depends on what you mean by mud. The mud in the picture was snotty dirt roads after snow and melt in WY. Not the mud you find on trails and off road out there, I don't know much that can navigate that mud. I've had mine in mud, sand, and snow and never had any issues.

I was running my '18 Crosstrek on Toyo Open Country AT3 225/60R17.
My current Crosstrek Wilderness came with Yokohama Geolander A/T 225/60R17. When they wear out I'll go with either the Toyos or something similar.
I don't have any input regarding mud.

My wife’s Ascent eats snow for breakfast. Needs new tires before winter. I’ll be doing some research. Haven’t been thrilled with the wear on this last set. She’s probably a 85% in town driver, but we do travel in the winter a bunch so definitely need some grab.

That's actually really surprising. The engine notorious for head gasket issues was the EJ25. The problem was the gasket material and the fix was to swap to an upgraded multilayer gasket when it inevitably failed. This engine hasn't been in any Subaru in over a decade.
The EZ36, which you're saying your outback had, is almost universally agreed to be an almost bulletproof motor. 2 head gaskets in a year on a 3.6 is unheard of. It certainly wasn't a frequent problem with those engines.
For reference, the current flagship motor in most Subarus is the FB25. It's relatively reliable. The early ones had oil consumption issues and the early 2020s had thermo control valve problems. They're a chain driven engine unlike the older belt driven engines, so no need to worry with timing belt replacement schedule.

I've been pretty happy with my '24 Forester so far. It is my first Subaru, and current hunt/fish rig. I hate to say it, but it gets me to my hunting or fishing destination just fine and its way better than my Ram 1500 on fuel consumption.

Nephew has one, takes it everywhere, has the back set up for sleeping.
We have a 2011 Outback. Topping 240,000 miles soon. Oil changes and brake replacements are about all we’ve done. It’s been an awesome rig. Taken it hunting a couple of times when the wife needed the truck. Not my favorite because of capacity vs the truck. Way easier on the wallet though. We plan on running it into the ground.
