Not sure where to put this thread. So why not here?

What DOH! moments have you had in the woods that taught you something, and what was it you learned?

1)I learned yesterday that worrying about the weight of a few 1"x3 1/2" band-aids in your pack means you will use several times what they weigh in TP and redneck wrapping when you get a cut.
2) I learned that changing packs may result in some things not getting transferred. Like 1"x3 1/2" band-aids.

I've learned to put a stainless steel mesh glove on my left hand while I butcher in the field.
I've learned to always have a sturdy rope winch, extra rope, waders and jet sled when I moose hunt.

I’ve learned that using your rifle sling as a makeshift drag strap to get your deer out of the woods means you’ll be buying a new rifle sling.

I’ve also learned that those close together lines on topo maps come nowhere near demonstrating how steep things really are.

I’ve learned that drinking unfiltered water from a stream or spring is just dumb. And that giardia sucks and sticks with you for a REALLY long time.
