Anybody self filming their hunts? I haven't for several years and my camcorder is out of date.

Been looking at the Sony fdr line but looking for advice and opinions. 4k preferred but not sure if its absolutely necessary? Plan to upload to YouTube.

Will mostly be filming from tree stand and ground blind.

Thanks.

I have been using this Sony FDR - AX53 since they came out with it. It is remarkable. I use it a lot and with good conditions, in 4K, people struggle to know the difference between this and some of our $3,000+ cameras.

Only problem with handycams is the internal mics are useless in wind. So, get a small mic with a deadcat wind cover and you are set. The AX53 has a shoe in the top to mount this small mic I use.

Get a few spare batteries and you should be set. If that is outside the budget you set, you can step down to one of the other FDRs and likely be in good shape for your intended use.

Thanks Big Fin. That is the model I was looking at the hardest. Price doesn't hurt too bad either all things considered.

I duck hunt in mud, so I like a inexpensive, mudproof, shockproof/waterproof camera.
Years ago I bought a tiny 4 ounce Kodak Playsport and it is still alive after much mud/water/shock.

I know this is an older thread, but I figured I'd add my .02 for the next guy.

I run a Canon g50. It's a pretty good "prosumer" camera that comes in just below 1k. It is a bit shaky handheld, but on a tripod she is awesome. I mainly film 4k 30fps. Pretty good in low light as well.

Nice dog work AlaskaHunter. Dog waits for your commands as should be.
I’d not use it in the environment you’ve shown. Thought about a LUMIX for that being it’s weather/dust protected.

OP I currently use an AX 43, similar to the 53 and have no issues within reason
