So, My Wife and I have hunted unit 78 on 3 separate occasions, Each time killing very respectable deer. Last time we were there was 2018. Now we have enough points to go to this unit again. I live in Wisconsin but heard a fire ripped through there a few years ago and pretty much wiped out the heard that migrates through here. I have Killed 3 bull elk in Unit 13 which is pretty much Deer unit 81. To cut to the chase I'm curious if applying for a unit 78 tag next year is a waste of time or if there's still deer here. I'd be happy to swap some elk spots for deer spots in any of the units I listed above. Thanks Zach

If anyone wants to share any input on these units via PM would be greatly appreciated. I had done my research in 2022 and got some great areas to check out from fellow successful hunters. In 23 these areas had great winter kill loss. I just want to burn my points and I’m done.I was originally putting in for 81

I would not choose to hunt that area for mule deer for a few more years. I was out there in 2025 and it was bleak for deer (elk seemed to be doing fairly well, however).

Didnt know they had transferable landowner tags?

dont know if this will help...went moose hunting in 2024... stayed 3 days in deer unit 81 which ive been successful for in deer...saw 4 does

I'd email the biologist, she just gave the presentation at the Laramie meeting.
I can't find my notes at this time.

Parts of the range are making a comeback of sorts, better fawn recruitment and older aged doe surviving Winters.

Been here 2 years, most likely have read about newbs coming in looking for free help and how it's laughed at, asks for help anyway after not contributing a thing in the 2 years.

Welcome to Hunttalk.

Hello internet strangers, you don't know me but I'd like to know you, mainly where you apply and your best hunting spots.
