Son headed to State Championship Bass Tournament

My son and his fishing partner are headed to the Texas High School State championship Tournament at the end of the month; they had Regional Tournament last week and finished 3rd out of 200 boats at the Regional Championship (3 Regions, 635 boats total in Regionals top 150 go to State), 5 fish bag @ 24.42lbs. They had a “send off” today where they got to walk through the halls of the school with the drumline and cheerleaders behind them; it was pretty cool. On to the State championship Tournament on Lake Texoma, good luck boys!

Crazy how big high school and college fishing has become- as I’m sure you’re aware, it’s now a scholarship sport at many colleges.

Crazy how big high school and college fishing has become- as I’m sure you’re aware, it’s now a scholarship sport at many colleges.

Last year when he told me he was signing up for the “Bass Fishing” team I thought he was kidding because I had no idea such a thing existed. I had no idea how big of a deal it is, $68k in scholarships available at the State Tournament.

What kinda boat does an eighteen year old kid have these days.

They’re 16, but the anglers must have an adult Captain on board, (who can’t fish in the tournament). My sons’ fishing partner’s dad is the captain, but there are all kinds of boats in the tournaments, from top of the line bass boats to old center console bay boats (which is what they fish out of).

That’s awesome! Like others, I wish they had that opportunity when I was in high school.
A buddy and I use to fish Bass tournaments quite often when I lived/worked in Grand Rapids, MI. Sure miss it!

Very cool! Taking my two oldest on their first striper trip next month on texoma. Goodluck hope they catch a heavy bag.
