A group of snowmobilers from Wisconsin and Minnesota got pretty lucky in the Beartooths. I’ve been to the lake in question, and it’s some pretty crazy terrain for snow machines. Hopefully USFS catches up with them for a chat about snow machines 10 plus miles into designated Wilderness.

I work with a guy that flew the West side of the Root last weekend. What a surprise there were sleds in the Wilderness Area. These new machines get inexperienced riders into places they aren't supposed to be, and that they can't handle. mtmuley

This seems to happen in more Wilderness areas than not.
Not sure our agencies are capable of successful enforcement.
But as said above confiscation of machines would help deter. Need to make a public scene about confiscation too.

I would love to see someone film a documentary of the event including a check being written for snow machine extraction, check being written for numerous fines, check written for rescue and ending with keys being handed over to USFS personnel. Maybe make it mandatory viewing at some trailhead lodging locations. 🤔
