Shooting this weekend

Well the big river is still flooded. Im heading back up to my place on the miss pool 9 and I cant get my boat in the water again. So I figured why not bring the S&W 40 and the HOWA 30 06 and put a few down range. This is my first rifle so I am still learning. How would you site it in? I will be using it antelope hunting next year. Should I put it right on at 200 yards?

All my hunting rifles are dead on at 200 yds. But I'm old school.

According to my charts a 150gr Accubond or Hornady SST loaded to achieve 3000fps in an -06 and sighted in at 200yds will have a point-blank range of about 265 yds, more or less, and will be 2.7" low at 250. 6.7" low at 300, 12" at 350, 19.7 low at 400, 29 low at 450 and 40 low at 500.
Don't know what you'll be shooting but based on your choice of ammo there is data available which will tell you what to expect from that choice at different ranges. Weather and altitude can change this very slightly; your mileage may vary.

My -06 is zeroed at 200. I don't ever shoot far enough to require holdover.

Get a good rest both front and back of stock.

Start @ 50 yards. Shots should zero point of aim.

100 yards, 2" high of point of aim.

200 yards. zero point of aim.

No sin in starting at 25 yards either. Ammo is pricey. Each shot should count. Have fun!

Looking to burn up a few hundred rounds as well this weekend.

Ill be at the range myself. Got some .308 loads i need to try out. Since i started reloading i live at the range. Going to be shooting off some new 9 mm that i loaded for the wife also. I shot some the other day and they were fun to shoot. Made me want to trade in my .40
