Have you seen the adds for this one ? Due out in a month. It is based on the book “Point of Impact” by Stephen Hunter. The book got in to custom, accurate rifles, and what it took to make a long range “shooter”, I hope the movie does too.
About some bad guys who make the mistake of trying to frame a marine sniper. The book was very good, and the movie appears to have a budget Mark Wahlberg plays the shooter. It will be on my “see it” list

I think I read Point of Impact. It was ok, but I kept thinking "Aw, come on... that can't be real." When I finally decided that it was a fantasy, things were a little more acceptable.
Like the part where the shooter gets set up into helping assainating the President. He gets shot through the lungs by the bad guys -aarrghh- but miraciously survives because of faulty 9 mm pistol ammo. Kinda streches the credibility factor a tad, but it was otherwise a good read and the ending was pretty good also.

I rented “Shooter” over the weekend. It’s a good action movie, but it falls way short of the book. The best scean in the book is when two dozen mercenaries come after Swaggert. He climbs a hill, and from a distance, with a scoped rifle, he shows them what one man with an accurate rifle can do ! In the movie, the action takes place at much closer distance with full auto weapons and “bombs”, you know, Hollywood’s love of pyrotechnics

I've watched it twice in the last 10 days. The first time for impact, the 2nd time to get deeper into the plot and all the subtle nuances. I really enjoyed it, both times. If ya love "head shots", it rocks!!! hump
