Shocks and struts

For a regular truck, doing regular things that we all do, forest roads, washboard dirt roads, what shocks do you guys recommend? Are Bilsteins worth it, or should I just go with a middle of the road brand

I upgraded to rancho last year before hunting season. Noticed a significant difference cant help but think if I went even better with some bilistein I would be even more happier than I am.

Is it worth it is a loaded question. IMO, spending 600-800 bucks in shocks and struts is a no brainer. I might even spend more next time. The ride comfort difference is well worth it to me. The extra money you spend will equate to about $100-150 a year difference.

I haven’t regretted my Eibach setup one bit.

As a mechanic for the last 20+ years, i would recomend that better shocks and struts actually save you money on tires, other suspension parts and steering components. Not to mention the improvement in ride.

Love the rancho rs9000s on my F350. I wish I had done it sooner.

The bilsteins on my 4runner are ok. Which i had gone fancier for that.

Bilstein 5100s on my Tundra and I like them. Much better than stock!

Bilstein 5100s are a great shock and significantly improved the ride on my last truck. Will definitely be putting a set on my new truck when I need to replace them.

Funny Rancho RS9000 story.
I changed out the suspension in my 61 Willy’s CJ5 years ago. New shocks and leaf springs all around. I was beating the heck out of the Jeep and myself in a really bad area on a recent hunting trip. I decided to renew the suspension system again. I crawled under the vehicle a couple of weeks ago to see what I had to replace and realized I had Rancho RS9000 adjustable shocks. They were set too high for a different area I had been in and never readjusted. I cranked them down to softest setting and greased all the leaf springs. Totally different ride. Buying them was money well spent IMHO.
The Bilstein’s in my Z71 are great!

I have the same on my Tundra, good shocks for the money, will probably step up to the 6112s (edit) next time though...

Too bad GM's DSSV shocks aren't available aftermarket. Heck, my wife's Yukon came with Bilsteins stock. mtmuley

Were the Bilsteins the 4600 (yellow) or 5100 (silver)?

You can get the Fox 2.0 front and rear for around $800. I think these are coming as a stock option on some of the newer trucks now.

I've put KYB's top offering on my pickup and now on the mothership (Toyota Avalon).

Nothing but praise so far.

Hopefully they will be good 5 years from now.

@T Bone I put a set of KYB Monomax shocks on my last Dodge when I first got it. For street use I think you'll really like them. They wore out pretty quickly on the Ram, and I was happier with the Bilstein 5100.

I did Bilstein 6112 front and 5100 rear on my 4Runner. Been pretty happy with them.
