Shedding Antlers...

I am still seeing bucks with their antlers, its March, looks like we will have a chance at a few bucks still in velvet when archery season starts.

Or maybe there are some hormonal abnormalities and the ones I am seeing will not shed?

Whitetail dropped about 6 weeks ago here. Still seeing mulies and elk with headgear attached.

I have seen a few bucks that still have antlers. I also have heard from a few other people of them seeing bucks with new growths also.

T-bone, Are the Elk there like here and Not dropping till April(ish) ?

Deer here are still holding on to the headgear. Does anyone know if this is good, bad, or doesn't matter are far as next falls antlers?

I have heard from one of our local biologists that the longer they hold them the better it is. But I do not know why?

......the amount of time they hold on to their antlers is in relation to the animals health. deer that go through more physical stress drop their antlers sooner then the one's who didnt .the animals heath now has effect on its potential antler growth the following year....... if they get a good spring and summer with the rihgt amount of rain, and the deer get the groceries they need grow those antlers you may see some wall hangers next year....good luck .
